Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided to field first. KL Rahul and Sam Curran opened the innings for Kings XI Punjab as Chris Gayle was left out. Rahul was dismissed cheaply for 15 off 11 balls by Sandeep Lammichhane. But Curran played with positive intent, scoring 20 off 10 balls. At the end of 6 overs, Kings XI Punjab were 54 for 2. Shikhar Dhawan ran out Mayank Agarwal for 6 runs, after which Sarfaraz Khan and David Miller steadied the innings with some solid play....

The game was marred by the controversial way Jos Buttler was given out ‘Mankaded’ to Ravichandran Ashwin and that incident only shadowed impressive performances from both the participating sides. People who were talking about Gayle being past his prime were given a befitting reply during his typical T20 innings. At one stage, it looked like the Kings XI would amass more than 200 runs but quick wickets later on prevented that from happening....

Chasing in excess of 10 RPO, it is imperative to start off with a bang. Unfortunately for the home side, DC pegged them back with as many as three wickets in the powerplay overs. Coming to the IPL 2020 auctions held in Kolkata last month, Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Sunrisers Hyderabad looked already settled with only a thing or two to refine. Delhi Capitals was one of the most active teams along with Royal Challengers Bangalore with most of their overseas slots open. Having the deepest pockets, Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders had an impression of being the franchises with most control as they made significant purchases....

While the franchises were allotted Rs 82 crore each for the IPL 2019 season, Rs 85 crore has been allocated to each team for the 2020 season. The franchises will also have an additional purse of Rs 3 crore apart from the balance in their kitty, which will be carried forward from the last auction. The 2020 auction will be the last one before the franchises disband, and fresh squads will be assembled at the 2021 mega auction....
